NIPR Kaduna Honours Late Chedi with Memorial Lecture on Mentorship

The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, will on August 29, 2026 host the maiden edition of the Bashir Adamu Chedi Annual Memorial Lecture in Kaduna.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Chapter's Public Relations Executive, Malam Mohammed Saleh Shettima, and made available to newsmen in Kaduna.

The lecture is instituted in honour of the late Mallam Bashir Adamu Chedi, a former Chairman and Council Member of NIPR Kaduna Chapter, in recognition of his contributions to the Institute and his commitment to mentoring young PR professionals.

According to the statement, the maiden edition will hold under the theme, “Bridging Generations: Strengthening Public Relations Through Mentorship.”

It added that the event is expected to bring together leading public relations practitioners, academics, government officials, media professionals, young practitioners, students and other stakeholders from across Nigeria.

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, FNIPR, will serve as the Special Guest of Honour, while the President and Chairman of Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku, FNIPR, will serve as the Chief Host.

The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, FNIPR, is expected to chair the occasion, while Dr. Mrs. Nkechi Ali-Balogun, FNIPR, will deliver the memorial lecture as Guest Speaker.

Speaking on the significance of the event, the Chairman of the NIPR Kaduna State Chapter, Haroun Malami, MNIPR, said the memorial lecture was conceived to honour the enduring legacy of Mallam Bashir Adamu Chedi and preserve the memory of his contributions to the Institute.

“Malam Bashir Adamu Chedi was deeply committed to the growth of the profession and, particularly, to creating opportunities for younger practitioners to learn, develop and contribute meaningfully. This memorial lecture is our way of preserving that legacy,” Malami said.

He added that mentorship remains critical to the continued growth, relevance and sustainability of the public relations profession, especially at a time when the industry is undergoing rapid transformation driven by technology and digital media.

“Effective mentorship provides a bridge between experience and innovation. It enables seasoned practitioners to transfer professional knowledge, ethical values, institutional memory and practical experience to younger generations,” he stated.
